Mollà gets as much from the world around him as from the world inside him.
Revered as one of the most prolific and sought-after Spanish actors on the international film scene today, Jordi Mollà has imbued multiple creative personalities for more than two decades: actor, writer, director and painter. Mollà was born on July 1, 1968, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and trained in acting at the Barcelona Theater Institute; expanding his studies in Italy, Hungary and England.
As an actor, Mollà has an impressive number of almost sixty films. He first garnered acclaim in Bigas Luna’s Jamon Jamon, followed by notable work in MontxoArmendáriz’sHistorias Del Kronen, Gerardo Vera’s La Celestina and his portrayal of Daniel in Ricardo Franco’s La Buena Estrella, where in Mollà’s inspiring performance he prompted him to be recognized as a brilliant and flourishing talent in the Spanish industry.
Nominated 5 times for the Goya Awards for his distinguished, versatile, extreme and deep interpretations, Molla had become one of the best of his generation along with other colleagues in the Spanish industry such as Javier Bardem.
In 2001, Mollà starred opposite Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp in the critically acclaimed film Blow, his Hollywood debut and the vehicle that opened up the Spanish virtuoso’s stellar talents to American audiences.
As an artist, the self-taught painter has been known to channel as much passion and purpose into his artwork as he does into his performance. Expressive and bold, with open and subtle messages married to a myriad of colours, Mollà conveys oceans of images from her mind’s eye to canvas, and a wealth of installations of a vast and varied nature.
